Cast on 32 sts.

ROW 1: k3, * sl 1 wyif, k1; rep from * 13 times, sl 1 wyif, k2.

ROW 2: p3, * sl 1 wyib, p1; rep from * 13 times, sl 1 wyib, p2.

ROW 3: sl2 wyib, * k1, sl 1 wyif; rep from * 14 times, sl2 wyib.

Rep Rows 2–3 until piece measure 16" (41cm) for a total of 165 rows, ending with a RS row. Do not bind off or cut yarn.

BODY

Move work to a circular needle if using straights. With RS facing, and using available yarn end, pick up and knit 1 st in each loop of slipped st edge along side of base (82 sts), 32 sts along cast on edge, and 82 sts along other side of base—228 sts total. Place a stitch marker for beg of rnd.

RNDS 1–2: Knit.

RND 3: * k82, sl2, [k1, p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.

RND 4: Knit.

RNDS 5–10: Rep Rnds 3–4 three times.

RND 11: * k2tog, k78, SSK, sl2, [k1, p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.

RNDS 12–19: Work even in patt as est, slipping the 2 corner sts on every other rnd and working the ribbing as est for the side panels on every rnd.

RND 20: * k2tog, k78, SSK, sl2, [k1, p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.

RNDS 21–28: Work even in patt as est.

ROW 29: * k2tog, k74, SSK, sl2, [k1, p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.

RNDS 30–34: Work even in patt as est.

RND 35: * k2tog, k72, SSK, sl2, [k1, p1] 6 times, k1, p2, k1, [p1, k1] 6 times, sl2; rep from * once more.
